j and devi smJust kidding, we’ve yet to engage in any international scandals just yet, though we’ve been out and about pretty much non-stop since Friday.  We spent the day at the Marche where Agustin landed us a number more meetings and invites for the coming days.  Then we wandered along the beach with J and Nat and had world’s tastiest baguette sandwich and table wine at this outdoor café on an alley corner where I ran into U.K. friends Tess and Cassandra of Jeva Films who are off to exciting producing adventures (and our mutual quest to live the glamorous life.) juan of the dead 2 smQuite the education we’re getting already.  I’m so glad to be here on a no-stakes basis.  It’s been interesting chatting up some of the sales agents and other filmmakers. What a luxury to be here with a film that cost so very little to make.  So many folks are seriously losing money.  It’s almost sad seeing the endless posters of movies (surprisingly many with big name stars and clearly sizable budgets) that will be lucky to be noticed at all amid the endless titles.  It’s heartbreaking really.  Read the rest of this entry »

Cannes Indie Fest Kick-Off: DAY 2

seafood bbq smTalk about the perfect cure for jet-lag… we had the most decadent multi-hour BBQ feast on one of the multi verandas overlooking the gorgeous view behind us last night.  We sampled more crustaceans and types of cheese than I’ve likely consumed in the last 3 years combined with lovely red wine and chocolate to follow.  Discussion went late into the night and I can already tell it’s going to be painful to leave this wonderful haven. Arriving in Cannes 2010

sarahjThe adventure has begun.  The ash cloud resulted in a 6-hour delay in NYC, but we hung in the V.I.P. room (open bar and free cheese and hummus!), so it wasn’t exactly a hardship.  It was quite the interesting crowd, most of them clearly headed to Cannes as well – we heard fun snippets of conversation like, “Well the director and Sarah Jessica will be there, but of course Roman can’t come.” Read the rest of this entry »
