mainI didn’t think I could be more excited about our upcoming trip to Cannes, but apparently I was wrong.  I’ve ended most evenings this week feeling like Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady dancing in her nightie singing “I Could Have Danced All Night” (maybe because I did just that.)

We’ve not only made wonderful progress on the Dolores shoot (details soon), but our next feature is finally coming together and we may be shooting even sooner than I’d expected.  Meanwhile, Death’s still getting into more fests and we keep learning more exciting things about our upcoming trip to Cannes. puertorico-mapVIEUX PORT ET SUQUETWow, quite a week!  We learned that while Death in Charge screens at the Rincon Festival in Puerto Rico, I Spit on Eli Roth will screen at the Sci-Fi London Film Festival (I’m devastated we can’t afford to attend either.)  We also learned that trippin’ will be screening at both the Riverbend Film Festival and the Chicago Horror Society Film Festival on May 1st.   Yay!  Then I got word that trippin’s been officially selected to the Cannes Independent Film Festival!  What’s more, we’re to be put up in this amazing villa right off the Croisette with the programmers and other filmmakers (and a pool – sweet!) for 2 whole weeks!   As one might imagine, we are positively beside ourselves. Alas, A’s on the other side of the country and I’m steeped in work up to my eyeballs , so no rabbit/zombie soup for me.

However, this evening I get to take a brief respite as a guest on the podcast of filmmaking fest buddy Travis Betz, flickfights .  Which reminds me, I’ve been horribly remiss with our FRIENDS OF tRIPPIN’ section on the blog.  So, without further ado, I give you TRAVIS BETZ, friend of trippin’ and so much more… Read the rest of this entry »

We Must Rescue Cinema!

3122525698_fd8e8f8e00_oMy dear director friend J texted me from Australia in a mad frenzy.  He was on a bus en route to Melbourne and being “forced to watch Four Holidays.”  He wrote:

Oh dear, Devi, it’s one of the worst movies ever made.  And yet it’s filled with great actors.  What the hell?  Why?  How?  This is why we have to make (title of project we’re collaborating on).  We just have to.  There is a moral imperative involved.  We have to rescue cinema.  Think of all the poor kids who’ve never seen “The Breakfast Club” but God help them they have seen “Four Holidays.” Read the rest of this entry »
