Let There Be Pookas!

harveyI just revisited Harvey last night.  What a truly marvelous film!   James Stewart is so heartbreakingly wonderful in it with so many great quotes.  I’ve been meaning to rent it for over a year now.  I thought it would speak to me and it so did.  Since moving to L.A. it seems like far too many people feel compelled to tell me how to live my life and a couple have even accused me of deluding myself.  Do they know something I don’t know?  Interestingly it seems to be those unhappiest in their own lives who seem the quickest to judge my choices.  Funny that.

Admittedly, I don’t currently consort with Pookas, but I reserve the right to if I should ever see one.   Why are we so quick to judge other people when they choose to do things in ways that differ from our own – especially when it’s harmless and makes them happy?

harvey-1Much to my horror, Dreamworks is in production of a remake.  Come on, People – could anybody else possibly do justice to a cinematic Elwood P. Dowd after Stewart?  Talk about people deluding themselves!

Still, I think it’s time we become more tolerant of Pookas and the people whom find pleasure in their company.  What’s not to love about a 6 foot 3 1/2 inch rabbit who drinks whiskey and shares his gentle wisdom with those of open minds and hearts?  If there are Pookas out there reading this, you’re welcome in our home anytime.  Cheers to you, Harvey – thanks for the important reminder that “every day is a beautiful day” and to always “have a wonderful time wherever I am, whomever I’m with.” A truly inspirational performance and film!

Good comments Devi. One of my favorite films is “Rope”, but Harvey is also a great classic. People that think inside of a box are usually very insecure. One of the only ways they can obtain self validation is by socializing with other small minded people and by belittling people that do not share their views. However, because their best friends are full of prejudice and discrimination, their life becomes a paradox in which they constantly have to worry about whether they are in the “in crowd” or the “out crowd”. Sort of reminds me of another one of my favorite films, “Pleasentville”.

  2. Good news! A friend has informed me that Dreamworks has come to their senses and dropped the remake – yay!
