Time to Make the Zombies…

PetulaClark-DowntownWe’re just back from Philly which was super fun.  I definitely didn’t see it through  David architecture3 smLynch’s eyes (probably a blessing).   I was reminded a bit of Petula Clark’s song “Downtown” as I wandered the bustling sidewalks.  The city I saw was a thriving metropolis – an old school kind of “real city” – cool architecture, fancy department stores with impressive window displays, crowded restaurants and pedestrians who actually dress with flair and style – and hats!  So much nicer than than the increasingly standard “pod person” uniform of unimaginative jeans or -worse yet, shorts – ugh! -  that abound in L.A..  To be perfectly frank, I wish L.A. would act more like a real city.  For a place so concerned with image, it seems like personal style is not much of a priority, but I digress…

picThe Firstglance Fest was most enjoyable.  Saw some great films, met some cool people and enjoyed the parties.  Festival programmer, Bill Ostroff, a filmmaker himself, runs a very filmmaker-friendly fest.  We’re gonna enter trippin’ in their L.A. sister fest for sure.

autumnThe 10-hour drive back was remarkably pleasant.  It’s so nice to see actual autumn, my favorite season.  I was about to say we’re clearly experiencing an Indian Summer until it occurred to me that, much like the term, “Dutch Treat,” in all likelihood, “Indian Summer” has some ethnically unflattering connotation (Wikipedia has confirmed that suspicion.)  Suffice to say, it is sunny and mild and the absolute best time of the year to be in the Midwest.  The_shadow_over_Innsmouth_I got some good work done on the new script and even did all the notecards for a Lovecraft-inspired episode of a new TV series a producer friend is currently pitching to a few networks.  If it gets picked up, I may get to write and direct my own episode – yay!  Regardless, I’m too stoked to write this new script.  Whitby’s got me all inspired to do an Innsmouth story and I can tell this one’s gonna write itself.

Return-of-the-living-dead-punk-duoSpeaking of writing, it’s time to make the Zombies again (i.e. work on my new screenplay).  A group of us revisited Return of the Living Dead last night for inspiration.  Man, that’s still such a fun movie.  Tomorrow, I’ll get around to recapping our adventures in Whitby.  ROTLD02Now, I must go attend to the unliving…
