The Adventureland Express – Next Stop, Alaska!

suitcaseSo I’m off to Alaska for 2 weeks in a matter of hours and I feel  that familiar rush of adrenaline.  Too much left to do (why the hell am I blogging?!) and  I don’t even know where I’m staying yet (rest assured, there are a couple of options on the table so it’s not like I’ll be panhandling in the glaciers…I hope)

Question:  Is it possible to be a  “surprise junkie?”

nun-bongNo, I’m not implying somebody who jumps out from behind a corner, yells, “Boo” and then shoots up heroin, nor a Nun with a secret raging “coke habit” (pun intended – I’m feeling silly today.  Shame on Google image for not indulging me properly – this was the best I could find.  Sorry). But I digress.   What I meant is somebody who thrives on the unknown.

imagesI’m not a thrill seeker or adrenaline junkie by any means, but I do find I get very restless if life starts to get too predictable.  My writing suffers, my productivity slows down, my world starts to feel too small, my mood sours.  But when life feels like a cabaret ol’ chum,  I feel balanced and get this wonderful sense of peace.  Funny that.  If I were an animatronic fox in a Lars Von Trier movie I, too, might  say, “Chaos Reigns” but then I’d add, “…only in a good way.” (and I wouldn’t consort with those who go around mutilating their genitalia – ouch! Did I digress again?)

fireplace-main_FullOne of the reasons I’m so excited to go to Alaska (besides the fact that I’ve always wanted to visit Anchorage and I hear the fest is AMAZING) is just the idea of living away from the normal world’s distractions.  The thought of waking up in a tiny room, just me, my laptop and  a suitcase every morning with a few hours to work on my script before a day of new faces, films and experiences for 10 days straight sounds like pure heaven.  And, man, am I craving a fireplace!  They’ve got to have them in abundance in Alaska one would hope…

Friends often tease me because before every trip I always say, “Man, if I just had one more day to prep, I’d be in such good shape.” Then I proceed to have the most productive day of my life and get everything done I need to anyway. It’s precisely for this reason I think travel helps the artist.  It puts one’s priorities in place and gives her all new incentives and perspectives.  One must focus on just what’s important – like taking a moment to reflect amid a day of crazy errands (oh, so that’s why I’m blogging…)

whitmomgunssmUnder the gun, I’ve already flown through half of a daunting “to do list” today that would ordinarily take 2 or 3 days to accomplish.  Still, life keeps piling on.   We just got another distribution offer for Death in Charge and this one finally strikes me as very likely being “the one.” We also got some fun other surprises involving trippin’ that now require some follow up (I’ll share all when anything’s solidified. Wouldn’t want to jump the gun… hmm 2 gun references in one paragraph – what’s that about?  ) Clearly I’m getting giddy, better stop blogging and start packing.  Laundry should be finished. Yay! (did I really  just “yay!” about laundry?  Definitely giddified.)

Not sure what my cell phone or Internet access will be over the next 2 weeks, but we’ve got all sorts of guest blogs and more “friends of trippin’ ” entries to share, along with interviews with the bands and more from Spider and Zed and their crazy rock ‘n roll lifestyles.  So we hope you visit again.  Thanks for checking out our site and joining our Facebook fan page.  Welcome to the nutty family!
