paranormal-activity-dwrks2Man, 2 cinematic stinkers in a row.  I was excited to see Paranormal Activity. With a similar budget to trippin’ and all the amazing press and success currently surrounding it, I was encouraged.  I really wanted to like this film.  But, once again, I’m left in a quandary.  Why is this movie popular?  I was bored out of my skull.  Nothing happens.  This is the most mundane movie I have ever seen.  It looks and sounds horribly amateurish, which I understand is a “stylistic choice” to sell the whole home video thing, but if I wanted to watch an authentic  home video, I’d merely pop over to youtube where that particular form of punishment is readily available for free,  not throw down $12 a person.  Actually there is one super scary part.  The budget is supposedly like $15k.  What on earth did they spend it on I’d like to know.  Did craft services offer Beluga caviar?Caspian-Beluga-Caviar I can’t imagine how else it could have amounted to so much.   Basically the whole movie is just this annoying couple talking and being afraid by noises that never really pan out.  There are maybe a sum total of 3 minutes interspersed throughout the other 84 or so where a few things seem to actually happen, but even those are not scary amid the rest of the monotony.  imagesInterestingly, a few guys we met in the theater seemed genuinely scared by it.  Really? Weird. I suppose there were a few moments at the very end that might have been creepy if I hadn’t already been on the verge of slipping into a boredom-induced coma, but, alas, I was.  I was just relieved it was over.  It’s really time to raise the bar, Guys.  We’re checking out Michael Moore’s new film tonight – please may it at the very least be entertaining…
