judith weston studio screeningdirecting workshop 2We had the great honor of screening at Judith Weston’s Two Lights Studio last night to a packed house that, once more, made me feel like Pee Wee Herman at the end of his BIG ADVENTURE.  It felt so wonderful to re-enter the venue of my directing enlightenment that shall ever more hold such a warm place in my heart.  avocado milkshakeAfter a fabulous dinner at the nearby SIMPANG ASIA (awesome Indonesian food and delectable chocolate avocado milkshakes!),  with our editor Lauren Schweitzer and DOLORES actress Cynthia Dane, we trekked over to catch what might be DEATH IN CHARGE‘S grand finale screening before its distribution release and, much to my surprise, ran into friends I’ve made on my own big adventures of the past year. DirectorThe world in its vastness is also so delightfully small at times.  Michael Callahan, director from my same graduating class at Judith’s life-altering workshop screened his impressive short KIDDO, accompanied by talented director Mu Sun whom I met at the dreamy Anchorage Fest last year.  alaska gang smDEATH producer Greg Reeves and actor Phil Kaufman made a surprise appearance and so many other familiar faces amongst the crowd.  All roads lead back to Judith and I so understand why.  I can’t wait for my next workshop with her.

CherylLynn-Front1All the films were great fun to watch and I could not have asked for a better screening.  DEATH looked and sounded great and audience reception was fabulous.  The after discussion was a blast.  I keep meeting such wonderful people through this film that keeps on ticking. We closed the place down and it was still too soon to end a perfect night.  When I got back in my car, the radio instantly played my fave 70’s tune “It’s Got To Be Real” and it was never belt-sung with more feeling as I trekked on home, nowhere else I’d rather be, nothing else I’d rather be doing.   5685487095_29f45dd6b4_bSome days it’s a wonderful thing to be a filmmaker.  Most days, in fact.  Now I must put on my professor’s cap, which is also a pretty nifty one to wear.  More PROM and trippin’ news shortly…
