devi walk smHow does one transition back to real life after two weeks in paradise?

I guess I shall find out in the next few days.  I currently face multi hours’ worth of flights ahead, unpacking, repacking and heading out to take some meetings in Ohio as we officially kick off  the journey to bring Paige & Hadley’s Prom From Hell - our first feature with an actual budget (well, by my standards anyway) to life.  IMG_0325More on that project as of June 13th – which kicks off another fun development in the works for several months now.

After Ohio, we return to Michigan to shoot Last Seen on Dolores Street. Dolores is one of several shorts we have slated for the upcoming months if all goes well.  My muse has been working over-time the past 6 months, reminding me how important it is to always hone one’s craft in between the bigger projects that sometimes keep us from focusing on the actual fun, creative part we all got into this for.  Woman cannot survive on marketing her already made movies and film financing ventures alone after all.

devi marche smOver the next few days I will try to catch up and share the highlights and insights gained from the past 2 weeks.  Truly, I feel like I’ve lived a whole mini lifetime and everything makes so much more sense now.  I was reading Chris Jones’ blog this morning and realized he perfectly captured so much of what I loved about the Cannes experience – the inspiration, the pure joy of living, breathing, being immersed in all things film. He so eloquently writes:

chris jonesWhat I love about Cannes is the shot in the arm I get as a film maker. Walking around the market reminds me of what I am doing and why, meeting so many other passionate film makers reminds me that I am not the only crazy one, and I love  staying up way too late and chatting about films, deals, trends, posters, trailers, crazy Japanese movies…”

Read the rest HERE and also check out the trailer for the coolest looking movie ever Robo-Geisha which he discovered in the Marche.  Somehow I missed that one, but now must seek it out at all costs.  It clearly kicks some serious arse.

Thanks to Chris for the shout out to me as well, most kind.  He is a perfect example of what I refer to as the “generous artist.”  This is a type of person I’ve repeatedly met and am always so impressed by on the circuit – artists whose love for what they do compels them to share the wealth – their knowledge, support, enthusiasm, resources and camaraderie.    S/he’s somebody who does not see our endeavors as a competition between contestants vying for but a few coveted opportunities, but rather as a commune of kindred spirits working together to pursue our respective dreams and enjoying each other’s company along the way.

ciff family 2 smI met so many wonderful people like this the past 2 weeks and will be sure to share them in my accounts of this adventure.  But now I must go, alas, for the mandatory anal probe treatment now required at the Amsterdam airport before boarding U.S.-bound planes.  Good times.  Man, am I exhausted.  Thanks again, Cannes Independent for the adventure of a lifetime.  Details forthcoming…
