peaches elviradevi snively nightmare to rememberWhat an “L.A.” kind of week it’s been:  Henry Rollins, Mink Stole, Elvira and even John Stamos.  And now I’ve been invited to my first clothing-optional hot tub Bastille Day celebration!   I can’t believe I actually thought it would be a reasonably mellow summer.  Is it normal to sometimes feel like an extra in one’s own life?

kenny dorwayI’m hardly complaining.  The spectacles have been fun, though I’m STILL behind on a mound of work.  Good news is Lauren and I arrived at picture lock on Dolores this weekend (barring any requests for more or less frames from our FX team, that is.)

devi snively nightmare chatI’m quite pleased.  The team’s created another bizarre (but delightfully so methinks)  little world.  I can’t wait to share it with you all.  But there’s still much work to be done. We HOPE to have it ready to send it out into the world by August

Meanwhile, trippin’s making the rounds, Prom development’s kicking back into full gear, I’m wearing my writer’s cap once more and life continues to be sprinkled with the most delightful unexpected surprises.  devi snively agustin san franA fun trip to Santa Barbara and San Francisco (where I first  “became” a filmmaker back when), led to reunions with family, mentors, old friends and some exciting new ones thanks to octopus_142314eReyna Young’s super-fun A Nightmare to Remember Festival.  After fun discussion in the lobby led me to miss most of the films (d’oh!), I arrived at the awards ceremony to discover Death in Charge took first place!  Wow!  Congrats, Team!

Interestingly, the World Cup has been surprisingly helpful with my work.  With the boys otherwise occupied, I am free to enjoy my lunch in the privacy of my own head, with endless cocktail napkins on which to write out my scenes as we did while our beloved Espana made history (go, Paul the Psychic Octopus!)

agustin fuentes alternative press exhibitdevi snively art receptionBack in L.A. Alternative Press celebrated 25 years at a fabulous reception and exhibit where we scored free vodka, wonderful eye-fulls of great memories and music-inspired art, a fun chat with AP’s managing editors and our own piece of artwork by John Stamos – John Alex Stamos, that is.  Still, we’re stoked.

After, I had just enough time to pop in to wish Mo, our new bartender at my new fave corner bar, a happy b-day at his fun party where a cool jazz band played, then pop over to join buddy Joe at the Vista for a midnight drag show and L.A. premiere of All About Evilthe boys at evil smWhat fun!  Peaches Christ, infamous San Francisco Drag Queen and director of the film, put on a fabulously morbid extravaganza with special appearances by Mink Stole (yay!) and Cassandra Peterson (who is clearly the female Lon Chaney, because out of her Elvira make-up she is utterly unrecognizable.)

Dragula smThe show was a fun lead-in to a movie that will no doubt have a great midnight run at those wonderful indie film theaters that remember how important Rocky Horror was to so many of us growing up (and still is.)  Be sure to wear your best platforms and boas when it comes to your town!peaches christ show
