Thanks to Rabid Dog Press and Wicked Channel for their enthusiastic reviews of TRIPPIN’ and the compilation DVD (coming out soon!).  My Sundance report will have to wait until next week as I’m steeped in  production, writing deadlines AND finals for my last semester at the Academy for a spell (sad, but necessary with all the projects and upcoming travels, alas.  Professor Snively will return before too long, I hope.)  Suffice to say for now, the Sundance adventure was a fairy tale trip with some fun reality thrown in to keep the momentum going.   More soon…or later.  It’s hard to tell these days.  Thanks for your patience!

Happy almost-Halloween, Folks!  Providence, Rhode Island is the PERFECT place to celebrate the season we are finding at the super awesome RI Horror Film fest, where I’m pleased to share DOLORES (and I ) were awarded with the “Grand Prize for Directorial Discovery”!  I am truly honored (especially because the trophy itself – right – is so very awesome.)  Providence is amazing and you can easily see where Lovecraft got his inspiration.  The architecture’s stunning and the seafood sublime (evidenced by some super tasty tentacles seen left.)

There have been some truly great films – my faves so far  include:  HATCH, CABINE OF THE DEAD and INCUBATOR. Shortly we’re off on a Lovecraft walking tour sponsored by the Providence Historical Society.  The attention to detail in everything here is so inspiring.  To the right is our hotel’s lobby, and below is the ceiling at our new favorite bar – the Dorrance ( a 100-year-old former bank turned upscale cocktail bar and restaurant).  Sadly, RI has just received huge cuts in their film tax incentives, but I still foresee coming back here to shoot.  The people are so wonderful, the sights offer ready-made production design, and the crisp air is invigorating (how I love a proper autumn)  Thanks to the wonderful folks at RI Horror Fest for such a wonderful experience and super fun time!

Short and sweet, we’ve put up the first of some short teasers we shot for one of our four upcoming features, PAIGE & HADLEY’S PROM FROM HELL.   Check it out at www.paigeandhadley.com.

Somewhere between John Hughes and John Landis, PROM is the first in a franchise of 80s “punk rock teen romantic slasher comedies” on the Deviant slate.

People keep asking me when we’re shooting this one, but I’ve determined that’s the wrong question.  One day it’s a $2M movie, the next an $8M one.  For a spell it was possibly 3-D.  Exciting names have come and gone and regrouped as we’ve followed her around the world being chased by and chasing money, promises and opportunities.

To date, the script has placed in 13 competitions including Slamdance, PAGE Awards and Scriptapalooza.  It also reached finalist status in the Sundance Screenwriters lab.  With each new award, new possibilities seem to emerge.  But all of the necessary puzzle pieces have not come together just yet.

So, we still don’t know precisely when, where, how, or even if PROM’s our next feature as we have three other projects on similar development rollercoasters of their own (it’s been a wild few months for sure).   Such is show biz, eh?

Rest assured, we’re not sitting idle by any stretch.  Later this month I am workshopping some scenes with actors at Judith Weston’s fabulous Two Light Studios. We’re tweaking it some more with the fabulous writing mentor Pilar Alessandro .  And AFM’s just around the corner, as is the Midwest… (Prague and the U.K. are a bit further, but also in the running. )  Who knows?  As long as the momentum keeps steering us on this fun path, what’s the rush?   If the journey rocks, the destination’s bound to be awesome too, right?  More teasers to come soon…

Before our DVD release early next year, you can check out trippin‘ if you’re in Buffalo or Wisconsin this month.  Later this week we screen at the Witches of Whitewater Fest (along with Elias Matar’s fabulous feature debut ASHES – don’t miss it)  And we’re also screening at the best new party in upstate New York – the BUFFALO SCREAMS FEST over Halloween weekend.   Be there or be elsewhere.   But just so you know…

Sometimes I forget our kick-ass producer is also a “rock star of Anthropology.”  I was certainly reminded on our recent trip to D.C. when Agustin gave a super cool talk, had some exciting meetings and was interviewed by Boyd Matson on the  National Geographic  WEEKEND radio show.  Yes, trippin’s mild-mannered producer has a whole other identity as a well-published, world-traveling primatologist.    Understanding monkey behavior, of course, is super helpful on any film set.  If you’d like a tiny peek into his day job, catch his interview HERE.  And stay tuned for news of the release of his most exciting book yet.
